Team GB at Masters Bookbinding

Well the Olympics are truly upon us and the excitement is growing throughout the UK. Here at Masters Bookbinding we feel we have already won a gold medal. We were commissioned recently to produce the Team GB comments book by Rebecca Bateman. Bound in red hydrothermo material to the outside cover and with printed end papers, the finished result looked a winner through and through.

The Front cover was thermo debossed, so the GB Team logo is crisp and can be seen clearly. This one of the great benefits of working with thermo re-active materials. See more of the materials we work with here;

The Team GB Book will take pride of place in the GB Athletes Village area where members of Team GB will be able to add comments and share their experiences of the 2012 Olympics. The internal pages are plain Somerset book wove and the end papers are printed.

Here you can see Roger Masters the owner of Masters Bookbinding Ltd proudly displaying the Team GB Book.
You can also get an idea of the size of the finished book in Rogers arms. The internal end papers were printed at B1 size, so the whole project has been one of largest to date from a finished book size. You need to be part of
the Team GB Weight lifting team to pick it up.

Masters Bookbinding has a reputation built around producing high quality, hand-finished products. The company has been in operation in the south east for the last 35 years, and has grown from providing mainly binding and restoration services, to now taking on prestigious projects over a diverse range of bespoke products and working closely with the design and print industry.

100 Faces of London Exhibition

Recently launched in the Crypt Gallery, St Martins-in-the-Fields the 100 Faces of London features portraits of one hundred of these Londoners, reflecting the huge diversity of people who make up this great city of ours. All photographed within a twelve-month period, mostly during 2010, the youngest sitter was 20 and the oldest 100, with every effort made to embrace a broad range of ethnic backgrounds.

Masters Bookbinding were commissioned to produce the book that is now on exhibit in the Crypt Gallery. Launched on the 11th June the exhibition will run through until the 14th July. After the exhibition the book will be presented to the British Library to be kept for posterity.

The launch of 100 Faces of London Exhibition

Larger than A2 and containing 120 pages, with 100 individually printed plates, the book weighs some 29 kg (44 lbs). It has been magnificently bound for longevity, with silk covers and in its own bespoke ‘library case’,

Milan Svanderlik, a London-based Artist-Photographer, photographed 100 ‘ordinary’ Londoners over a 12-month period, reflecting the huge diversity of people who make up this great city of ours. To learn more about this artistic project, the Heritage Book itself, and to see 100 extraordinary portraits, please visit his web gallery at: http://www.100facesoflondon.org/100_Faces_of_London/Welcome.html

Bespoke Box Making and Packaging service

The chest box example on the right is a paper over folding box board solution. The client provided the printed laminated sheets and we mounted over board. The quality of the print and image give an excellent feel and look to the finished article. This box was part of promotion that needed to give a robust and secure look, to tie in with the subject matter of the promotion.

A truly unique product called for a unique package solution. With only 120 jars of Regents Park Honey available, we had to make the package solution unique, high quality and different.

Working closely with the design agency and their brief, we established from their drawings and requirements, the best way of producing this short run packaging requirement.

The final run of 120 copies were made using Colorplan http://gfsmith.com/paper/colorplan over grey folding box board. We printed silver foil to the outside of the box. Both the z card, jar label and strip seal, were printed and produced by us too. You will see from the picture that we also created an holding insert to support the jar.
